Concussion Has Shurna Uncertain for #1 OSU

Posted Jan 27, 2011

With two-straight losses and top-ranked Ohio State up next, things are not going well for Northwestern. However, the Wildcats received some more bad news after their 11-point loss to Minnesota.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Northwestern junior forward John Shurna suffered a concussion during Wednesday’s loss to Minnesota.

Shurna suffered the concussion when he was shoved by Minnesota’s Ralph Sampson III, and went face first into the basket padding underneath the hoop. Shurna was bleeding from the chin, and receieved six stitches, but returned in the second half. However, Shurna was clearly not the same.

Once Shurna returned to the game, he committed two turnovers and three fouls, while scoring just two points.

Shurna was held out of team workout on Thursdays, and is questionable for Saturday’s game against #1 Ohio State.
