Northwestern Top On Elflein's List Writer
Posted Feb 19, 2011

With the spring of his junior year approaching, three-star offensive guard Pat Elflein has garnering interest from a number of top programs in the Big Ten and around the country.

The Pickerington, Ohio product has offers from Northwestern, Indiana, Bowling Green, Akron, Toledo, and Miami (Ohio), and has also received interest from Ohio State, Michigan State, Tennessee, Notre Dame, and Cincinnati. And although he plans to continue reviewing his options, Northwestern is his favorite.

“I like the academics mainly. It’s a very good academic school,” he said. “I’ve been talking to some of the coaches and we’ve been building a good relationship.”

Elflein has been talking with assistant coach Matt McPherson a lot on the phone, but has also been in contact with coach Pat Fitzgerald on Facebook.

“We’ve just been talking about the position I’ll be playing, about the school and how I fit in, the coaching staff, and what it’s like at Northwestern,” he said.

Elflein has not been to Evanston yet, but plans on making a trip in the future. He has already visited Bowling Green, Toledo, Miami (Ohio), Ohio State, Michigan State, Tennessee, and Cincinnati.

Although NU is his early favorite, Elflein doesn’t want to rush his recruitment and plans to wait until after his senior season to announce his college choice.

“I want to pull in all the offers I can and then make a decision, probably,” he said.
