Indiana RB Set To Visit Northwestern

As his recruitment heats up, Nappanee (IN) running back Coy Brown is setting up some visits, including a trip to Northwestern.

Things have been picking up for Coy Brown. The running back has received interest from a long list of schools including Northwestern, Arkansas, Tennessee, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, UCLA, Purdue, Illinois, Nebraska, Colorado, and others.

"Everything is going pretty well," said Brown. "It's starting to heat up a little more. I'm still pulling in letters. I'm definitely starting to talk more with coaches and build relationships."

Now, Brown (6'0, 205-lb) is starting his long tour of visits. Last weekend, he was in Wisconsin to visit the Badgers.

Next up on Brown's tour of schools is Northwestern, a school which the running back has been hoping to see.

"I've been wanting to go down there for a while," said Brown. "I hear it's a nice campus. I know they're high on academics, which is my number one. I definitely want to go down there and see what they're all about."

Northwestern has something that Brown said is a key in his search for a school: medical school.

"I'm looking for a good medical school to, because I want to go to school for physical therapy," Brown said.

As his recruitment has progressed, Brown's contact with Northwestern hasn't been as constant has it was during his junior season. Now, Brown is excited to meet Coach Pat Fitzgerald and the rest of the NU coaching staff.

"They've shown some interest," said Brown. "Not a lot lately, but there definitely was a lot of interest early. I feel pretty good. I got to get down there and meet the coaching staff and Coach Fitzgerald."

But thus far, Brown admits he does not know enough about the Northwestern football program. He is hoping to change that during his visit.

However, Brown already has one connection to the Wildcats. Northwestern sophomore punter Brandon Williams attended Northwood High School. When Williams talked with Coy Brown, he told the running back what to expect of Coach Fitzgerald.

"(Williams) said he's a player's coach, enthusiastic, a great guy, a great coach, and a great person to be around."

While Brown does not currently hold any offers, the running back already knows when he receives offers; he won't rush into making a commitment.

"I'm just talking it slowly, and when the time is right, I'll make my decision," Brown said. "Once I feel like it's the right school, if the time comes, I might commit early."
