Monheim Exploring All Options

Monheim Exploring All Options

Orrville (OH) linebacker Mason Monheim left his visit at Northwestern with a positive feeling. Now, he's exploring all of his options. Where do the Wildcats stand with the three-star linebacker?

With offers from "almost all of the MAC schools and Illinois," linebacker Mason Monheim is still looking to pick up more offers. The three-star prospect from Orrville (OH) HS is also interested in Michigan State, Boston College, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, and Northwestern, among others and is hoping to pick up an offer.

"Schools like Michigan State and Ohio State, I'm going to go to the camp, and I'm hoping to get scholarship offer from at least one of them," he said.

However, right now, Monheim is focusing on the offers he has.

"The schools that have offered are basically at my top right now," he said "The people who have offered are the ones that have the most confidence in me."

Despite not having offers from other schools, Monehim visited a number of them earlier in the spring, including Northwestern.

"[Northwestern] was good," he said. "I didn't know what to expect. The campus and everything was super nice; it's right near the lake and everything. I'm pretty good on academics and you can't get much better than that.

"[Northwestern's coaches] came in early in the month to school," he added. "They kind of just said when I was there that they wanted me to come to camp and they came to school and kind of said the same thing."

In addition to NU, Monheim visited Michigan, Boston College, Illinois, and Michigan State.

I'd probably say Michigan State [was my favorite]," he said. "I mean they're a big program. I really connected with the coaches; I got to talk to them pretty in-depth. I just really liked how they went about their business in practice and everything. The facilities are great; one thing I like is how everything is in one central area."

Monheim has yet to choose a favorite, but will continue to look at all of his options. That includes Ohio State, despite the recent scandal and head coach Jim Tressel's resignation.

"I'm from Ohio and I know the tradition and everything; it's still Ohio State football," he said. "There's not going to be Coach Tressel there and everything. I don't know if I'd be saying the same thing if pretty hard things come down on them like bowl games and stuff, but yeah they're still up there."

With over eight months until National Signing Day, Monheim still has plenty of time to make his decision. However, he plans to announce his college choice before school starts in the fall.

"I think I want to get it done before the end of the summer," he said. "I want to go to some camps and everything and see what happens there. I think I'll have a pretty good idea."
