Herman Offered At NU Camp

Carmel (IN) High School safety Jimmy Herman came to Northwestern's camp feeling optimistic. The standout safety had been hearing quite a bit from the Wildcats. After a strong showing at camp, Herman was offered a scholarship by Pat Fitzgerald and Northwestern.

Herman (6-4, 205) made the trip over to Northwestern knowing that there was a good chance he could be offered. After an impressive performance in front of the NU coaches, he left with a parting gift—his first Big Ten offer.

"It feels really good (to get a Big Ten offer), especially with it being Northwestern," said Jimmy Herman. "They have strong academics and that's what I'm looking for. I'd say I'm pretty interested in them right now."

During the visit, Herman performed in Northwestern's one-day camp, then took a visit around campus with the coaching staff. At the end of the tour, he met with NU head coach Pat Fitzgerald and offered a scholarship.

For Herman, a number of things make Northwestern stand out.

"The whole experience there—they have a good campus and good academics," Herman said. "It's right by Chicago. They have a lot of good things about it."

Northwestern has been eyeing the talented safety for some time, and made it clear that they were very interested.

"I think they were going to offer me before I came to camp," Herman said.

Herman has two other offers on the table—Central Michigan and Western Michigan—but adding one from Northwestern was big. Now, the Wildcats have the lead in Herman's recruitment.

"Definitely at the top," he said.

Now, Herman is shooting to make his decision at the end of the month. First, he needs to wrap up his busy schedule of visits. Then, he'll take some time to evaluate each option. After that, a decision will come.

"I need to evaluate everything before making any decision," he said.
