Living in the heart of Big Ten country, Caspers is hoping to add offers from a Big Ten school. That may be possible, courtesy of the Northwestern Wildcats.
NU running backs coach Matt MacPherson has served as Caspers' lead recruiter, and is showing the standout offensive lineman some serious interest. He is set to attend Northwestern's one-day camp on June 24th, and hopes to leave with an offer.
"They want to see me at camp," said Johnny Caspers. "If that goes well, something will come of it.
"Hopefully, I can prove to the coaches that I can be a D-1 athlete and be an offensive lineman in the Big Ten."
Caspers has been hearing from Northwestern and assistant coach Matt MacPherson for a few months, and remains very interested. A few things stand out the most about NU.
"I really think academics is a big part of my college experience," said Caspers. "I like the staff at Northwestern. Coach Cushing is a good guy and great coach. Coach Fitzgerald seems like a great coach.
"I think definitely the coaching staff, location is very important, and the school itself."
Northwestern is also looking at Caspers' Glenbard West teammate, Tommy Schutt, a four-star defensive tackle. Last season, the Glenbard West Hilltoppers reached the Illinois 7A state quarterfinals, but fell to eventual champions Wheaton Warrenville South.
