Olson, DePietro Surprise Northwestern

Adam DePietro

Pat Fitzgerald received a nice surprise today. When Adam DePietro called to commit, Fitzgerald was excited. That was only the beginning. DePietro wasn't the only one on the phone. Also on call was fellow lineman Eric Olson, who also committed to the Wildcats. The two gave Northwestern a pleasant surprise with their verbal commitments.

DePietro received a Facebook friend request from Eric Olson, and the two linemen decided to give a joint commitment to Northwestern.

"We just thought of it today," DePietro said. "He just added me on Facebook, said we both had Northwestern as finalist, and we just got to talking and said, let's just do this, let's go all in and get the best o-line class that we can, let's win a Big Ten title."

Both are linemen have picked up interest from schools all across the country, but decided they were in it together—they wanted to be Wildcats.

For DePietro, it's a relief to have his decision taken care of. This week, he had narrowed down his options to Northwestern, Michigan State, and Wisconsin. Now, the decision is made and DePietro is both relieved and excited.

"It feels awesome, it's incredible," DePietro said. "It's a big weight lifted off my shoulders. I feel like all my hard work has finally paid off. Everything my parents and family have done for me. I'm really thankful right now."

The only thing holding DePietro back from his commitment was waiting to hear from the Wisconsin Badgers—another school which was very high on his list. The lineman was set to hear if the Badgers were going to offer. When Wisconsin told him they would wait, DePietro said he didn't feel like waiting.

"I just thought, I'm not going to wait, Northwestern has loved me and wanted me to commit for a while," DePietro said. "I wanted to go somewhere that loved me and I wasn't an afterthought for them."

Both DePietro and Olson are excited to play together, but so is the Wildcats' third commit, Ian Park—another lineman who DePietro has been in contact with on Facebook. With those three and Kenton Playko in the mix, the future is bright for Northwestern.

"All these good linemen are going to change it around and make this a better place," said DePietro. "I'm really excited, I got a great feeling about the future."
