Aka Getting Closer

Pike (IN) High School defensive end Pierre Aka doesn't have an offer from Northwestern just yet. He is, however, highly interested in the Wildcats, and says he's confident the offer will be coming soon.

"They have to see my test scores come in before they can offer, but right now pretty high on the list," Aka said. "The only thing holding me back is test scores, SAT or ACT."

If Aka receives an offer from NU, it will add to his extensive list. The three-star lineman already has offers from Akron, Arkansas State, Ball State, Bowling Green, Iowa State, Marshall, Miami (Oh), Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Toledo, Western Kentucky, and Western Michigan.

According to Aka, however, a Northwestern offer would place the Wildcats near the top of his list. Even without an offer, his interest in NU is high.

"They're up there. It's just an open market, some schools stick out like Iowa State, Northwestern, Stanford, but I don't have a top," Aka said. "I'm just settling in, and just playing the whole thing out."

Several things about NU stand out for Aka, who said academics is probably the most important factor in his decision. One of the main things that stands out for the Wildcats, however, is the coaching staff.

"I think any school you go to, you won't find a coaching staff that," Aka said. "Coach Fitz will be there for a long time, he's a different type of head coach—he tells players to stay out of trouble and to be a better man, and he does a good job setting an example for his players."

Aka visited Evanston on July 27, and though he did not participate in a camp, he came away from the visit with a positive reaction.

"When I visited, I really liked campus by the lake," he said. "I think that was a pretty nice view. No other school has that type of location, that's pretty nice. It's not necessarily a big college town campus, but a nice suburban area that's pretty nice, I like that."

Aka said he is not close to making a decision, and that he isn't sure when his decision will come, although he stressed that he is not interested in rushing the process.

"[I'll make a decision] when the time is right, whenever I can feel like that's the school," he said. "I don't have a fixed date. I'm not even close to ready. Could be after season, could be next three weeks. It will be whenever feel time is right, but not anytime soon."
