Kafka Makes NFL Debut

Mike Kafka

Former Wildcat quarterback Mike Kafka made his NFL debut in front of a national television audience, and would gain some attention in the social media world.

When Philadelphia Eagles Pro Bowl quarterback Mike Vick went down with an injury, head coach Andy Reid turned to former Northwestern star Mike Kafka, who would make his NFL debut.

Kafka was exceptional is his first appearance. He completed seven of nine passes for 72 yards in front of a national viewing audience on NBC. With the Eagles down by four points, Kafka was looking to lead a comeback, but on fourth down and five, Kafka's pass was dropped by Jeremy Maclin.

The Eagles would get the ball back with six seconds remaining, but Kafka's hail mary was broken up in the endzone. The Falcons would earn a 35-31 victory over Philadelphia.

When Kafka entered the game, the social media world exploded, as tweets and Facebook posts flooded in. ‘Mike Kafka' would become a worldwide trending topic on twitter, ranking ahead of 'Friday Night Lights' star Kyle Chandler, who won an Emmy Award tonight.

Vick suffered a concussion, according to the NBC broadcast. No details of the injury have been released. If Vick is not ready, Kafka will likely make his first NFL start against the New York Giants.
