Scanlan Makes It Official

Spring-Ford (PA) High School receiver Andrew Scanlan waited months for a scholarship offer, so the one-day period which Scanlan spent after his visit at Northwestern probably didn’t seem like too long. After his weekend visit, Scanlan went home to discuss his plans with family and coaches. He gave his verbal to Northwestern on Tuesday morning.

Andrew Scanlan had Northwestern sitting atop his list throughout his recruitment, but made it official on Tuesday morning, just a day after his visit in Evanston.

Scanlan confirmed with PurpleWildcats.com that he has given his verbal commitment to Northwestern.

Scanlan, a 6-foot-2 receiver, impressed Northwestern receivers coach Dennis Springer during a summer camp, and suddenly found himself on the Wildcats’ radar. His offer finally came in October, and Northwestern was already on top of his list.

Over the weekend, Scanlan visited Northwestern, and met with the coaches again. However, he was already planning his commitment.

Scanlan went into the visit with the idea in mind that he may give his verbal commitment.

“There is a chance,” Scanlan suggested prior to the visit.

On Sunday night, Scanlan returned home to Royersford, PA., after what he described as an “excellent” visit.

He met with his family and coaches on Monday, before sharing his commitment with NU head coach Pat Fitzgerald.

Scanlan also held offers from Akron, Northern Illinois, and Delaware, and had received interest from a number of other schools. He is the 19th member of Northwestern’s 2012 recruiting class.
