Ball Talks With MacPherson

Rising junior defensive back Marcus Ball is looking to start his own journey in college. The Westerville (OH) High School product hopes to explore a different city during his college career, and likes the idea of living in Evanston. He spoke with Northwestern coaches on Thursday evening.

Westerville South (OH) High School defensive back Marcus Ball spoke with Northwestern's Matt MacPherson on Thursday evening, and learned some facts about what off-the-field life at NU is like.

"You have the Chicago Bulls, the White Sox, the Blackhawks, a lot of places you could go out and visit a little bit, said Ball, a big sports fan. "That's definitely a factor because you have a life outside of football."

During the phone call, MacPherson spent some time getting to know Marcus, both the person and the football player.

"(MacPherson) just asked me about my family, obviously, how my grades are, stuff like that," Ball said. "Also, what I look for on the field and in schools."

Ball, a two-way standout at Westerville High School, holds offers from Arizona State, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, and Toledo, and has added interest from the Big Ten, Big East, and ACC.

The rising junior is looking for a journey with the college experience, and hopes to explore a new city during his four years.

"I'm just really looking to go experience something where you could be more responsible," he said. "Sometimes, you go to a new place, you don't know anybody--it could be bad--but I want to experience it myself."

Ball, who is the brother of Wisconsin offensive lineman Ray Ball, is looking to major in business management during schools. He hopes to find school which can support that major, but most importantly, feels the most comfortable. After all, there's no place like home. "I'm looking for good coaches, good support, i want to feel at home," Ball said. "I want coaches and a staff where I could feel like it's a seond home. I'm looking into that."
