Ebert Eager For Draft Day

Former Northwestern wide receiver Jeremy Ebert surprised himself and NFL Scout with a 4.37 40-yard dash at Pro Day. His NFL Draft stock is now on the rise. He is excited to keep working hard as draft day approaches.

Jeremy Ebert delivered a pleasant surprise to everyone at Northwestern’s Pro Day when he ran a 4.37-second 40-yard dash, from NFL scouts to himself.

“It surprised me and surprised a bunch of people there,” he said.

While he even surprised himself with his time, Ebert didn’t doubt his abilities, and he proved the skeptics wrong on pro day, just as he did throughout his career at Northwestern.

“I knew I could pull off a good time,” he said. “I knew I had that kind of speed. It was nice to actually do it when it mattered.”

Ebert came to Evanston in 2008 as a 2-star recruit and the No. 251 receiver in the country. However, he was NU’s leading receiver in his final two seasons and a second team All-Big Ten selection by the media his senior year.

Just like he did during his career, Ebert’s draft stock has shot up quickly — CBS Sports listed him as one of the biggest risers on the Draft board after his pro day. Now, he’s working on improving right up until draft day.

Since the season ended, Ebert has been working out at TC Boost in Northbrook, Ill., with some other former NU teammates, including Brian Peters, Jack DiNardo, Drake Dunsmore and Dan Persa.

“I’m getting back in football shape and stuff like that,” he said.

Ebert has also spent time throwing with Dunsmore and Persa twice a week and has been lifting at NU, as well as visiting wide receivers coach Dennis Springer.

After a disappointing senior season — Ebert described it as “crappy” — that saw the Cats go 6-7, he said he is happy to be able to continue training with some of his teammates.

“Those guys are like my best friends,” he said. “(I’ve enjoyed) being able to work out with them and experience this together with them.”

He is also sharing the experience with former Wildcat Corey Wootton, who he shares an agent with. Wootton graduated after the 2009 season and is not a member of the Chicago Bears.

While Ebert has suddenly become a hot name on many draft boards, he isn’t worried about when he hears his name called. Right now, he’s just worried about getting better and enjoying the experience.

“I’m focusing on stuff I can control,” he said. I’m not really worried about things I can’t control. A couple teams have contacted me, but other than that I really don’t know. I’ve just been talking to my agent. You really don’t know until draft day.”
