"It has always been a dream of mine to play college football," said Kolbe, who will be a junior next year.
With that goal in mind, Kolbe has worked harder than ever during the offseason. He has participated in 7-on-7 drills since January, while putting in work in the weight room. That has led to a 20-pound increase and sharp velocity on his throws.
"I want to build off what I'm good at now, but try to make all my skills better," Kolbe said.
The Wildcats have expressed minor interest thus far, though Kolbe feels strongly about them.
"I've always liked the school, I love watching them," Kolbe said of Northwestern. "I think Pat Fitzgerald is a great coach and they're on the rise. I like Northwestern."
Kolbe attended a camp at Iowa State, and plans attend one at Northern Illinois. He is also considering whether to attend the Northwestern-hosted Chicagoland Showcase camp on Thursday.
"We should have really good team," he said. "Our defense is really strong. It's looking good for us."
