NU adds walk-on center Liberman

Northwestern officially announced the addition of walk-on center Aaron Liberman to its roster for the upcoming season.

Northwestern struggled to find a true big man during its NCAA tournament miss last season.

In looking to solve the problem head coach Bill Carmody has added three true centers; freshmen Alex Olah and Chier Ajou, plus walk-on Aaron Liberman, whose addition was officially announced on Wednesday.

"We are thrilled to officially announce the addition of Aaron Liberman to our 2012-13 recruiting class," Carmody said in a statement to the media. "Aaron had a tremendous opportunity to spend a year abroad studying and playing in Israel. He has made excellent strides to develop his body and to hone his skills on the court. He will be a great addition to our revamped frontcourt."

Liberman, a 6-foot-10 forward/center, is considered a steal as a preferred walk-on. He averaged 17.4 points per game, 12 rebounds per game, plus 8.7 blocks during his senior year with Valley Torah (Calif.) High School in 2010-11. After graduation, he spent a year in Israel.

Northwestern's freshman class includes Kale Abrahamson, Chier Ajou, Sanjay Lumpkin, and Alex Olah. The team also will receive contributions from Louisville transfer Jared Swopshire, redshirts Tre Demps, Mike Turner, and Nikola Cerina, a TCU transfer.

The Wildcats open the regular season on Nov. 13 against Texas Southern.
