Tim Hardaway hits the glass (w/video)

Michigan junior shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr. was one of the old men in the starting lineup Thursday night against Northern Michigan. He finished with 8 rebbies to go with his 13 points, and John Beilein is hoping his selflessness can turn into a little more selfishness moving forward.

Without his usual running mate in the backcourt Thursday night in the exhibition opener against Northern Michigan, Tim Hardaway Jr. picked his spots, played distributer a bit and even got involved on the glass in route to a 13 point, 8 rebound and 5 assist performance.

"Today he had the 5 assists and no turnovers and he's got to continue to see his role at a guard," said head coach John Beilein. "It's a different role sometimes."

"I just like that he went in there and rebounded the ball," added Beilein. "In certain things we want him to rebound. He hasn't done a lot of that and he's trying to do more things. Be more of an assist guy, he's become a better defender and still hit big shots for us."

While Michigan was able to accumulate 19 offensive rebounds Thursday, a statistic Beilein said "hasn't happened this century" under him, Hardaway took it personally that Northern Michigan was able to snatch 10 offensive boards of their own.

"I think boxing out," said Hardaway. "They got some offensive rebounds that we could have had and just finding your guy, putting a body on him and just making sure that he doesn't get the ball."

With an 83-47 victory, the Wolverines won't spend much time reveling in their blowout.

"Just embrace the moment right now and we go back to work tomorrow," said Hardway Jr.
