Robinson, frosh play through nerves (w/video)

One of two freshmen to get the start in Michigan's exhibition opener Thursday, forward Glenn Robinson III admits the young'ens were a little antsy prior to taking the floor but quickly overcame that by doing what they do on the court.

Although the stat sheet won't go into the record books as an official game, freshman forward Glenn Robinson III was fired up Thursday. Having been committed to Michigan since the beginning of his junior year in high school, it was finally time for Robinson to take the floor as a Wolverine and the jitters were definitely present in pre-game.

"I had a little bit of jitters and nerves in the locker room before the game, all day," said Robinson III. "Just coming out and getting real hyped in that tunnel and coming out and seeing the crowd. Then once that video came on the board we heard Tim scream and we just, we all just got hyped up."

The energy and excitement showed early and often for Robinson and the rest of the Wolverines, starting the game off with a 17 to nothing run that ultimately catapulted Michigan to an easy 83-47 victory over Northern Michigan.

"Just coming out we tried to all do our best, play within ourselves and move the ball and I think that's what we did," said Robinson III. "We came out and executed the way we wanted to."

Robinson III led the way early, pacing the Wolverines along with freshman Nick Stauskas who both finished the first half with 9 points. Robinson III wasted no time getting up his first shot attempt in front of the home crowd, a three ball that went down and proved to be huge for the freshman's confidence.

"I think if I would have missed that I would have been a little more tight, like tense about myself," said Robinson III. "But I knocked down that and it just got me going. After that I just started playing and so did the team."

Robinson III finished the night with 13 points in a game that saw 3 of the 5 freshmen score in double figures.

One of the more intriguing moments in the first half happened when the group of 5 newcomers took the floor together for the very first time.

"We all checked in at the scorers table at the same time," said Robinson III. "We kind of looked around at each other and said lets go, this is our time and lets give the fans something to talk about; so I think that's what we did. We've still got to communicate and get used to the pace of the game, especially playing together."
