Morgan’s energy a catalyst for U-M (w/video)

Michigan junior center Jordan Morgan played an integral role in the Wolverines 80-67 victory over Arkansas Saturday afternoon, impacting the game in several areas. **with video interview**
Playing on the 3rd ranked team nationally that includes an NBA backcourt and several highly acclaimed freshmen, it’s easy to see how the gritty, bruising junior center could be somewhat lost in the shuffle. But don’t go telling Michigan junior
that his job on the 9 and 0 Wolverines goes without being noticed.
“I wouldn’t say forgotten it’s just, everybody’s got a role,” said Morgan afterwards. “You just do your job and worry about winning. We talked early that all individual goals are achieved through team success, so we’re not worried about that.”
Morgan’s constant activity in the paint in turn caused great concern for Arkansas who gave up 18 offensive rebounds in total, six of those coming from Morgan alone. Not only did Morgan collect boards like they were going out of style, he finished quickly and confidently on several occasions, with defenders challenging the shot.
“We had some roll opportunities, some drop offs,” said Morgan. “Like I said, it’s just me doing my job and finishing what I can for my team.”
The Razorbacks’ run and gun style of play was kept from firing on all cylinders, due to the aggressive and relentless attack of the offensive glass by the Wolverines. With Morgan, sophomore
rotating inside, the trio went 100 miles an hour knowing a rest was coming every few minutes.
“Just the ability to play without worrying about foul trouble or making mistakes, because you got so much depth, so many guys that can come in and help the team,” said Morgan. “You just come in and give your best for as long as you’re out there. And that’s all you’ve got to worry about.”
Morgan finished the game with 12 points and 10 rebounds on 5 of 9 shooting from the floor. While a double-double won’t be expected every single outing, John Beilein believes Morgan’s energy is vital to Michigan’s success the rest of the way.
“This has got to be his MO,” said Beilein of Morgan. “… a high energy guy that gets all the garbage buckets, defends the heck out of his man, and everything will just come his way. When he’s got that, we’re a much better team.”
