Ramirez Talks About His Commitment

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Christmas came a couple of weeks early for the Kansas State staff in 2012. On Thursday, December 13th, they received commitments from three players at Iowa Western, Travis Green, Devon Nash, and Jake Waters, and also reeled in a big catch from the Kansas City area in Nick Ramirez, an inside linebacker from Lee Summit West.

"I committed over the phone to Coach Cox," said Nick Ramirez. "When I visited the school early this month, I feel in love with the atmosphere. It's just a great program. The coaching staff and the players are all about winning. Coach Cox got pretty excited when I told him the news. He'll be a great coach to play for. He's done such a great job of developing players like Arthur Brown and Jarell Childs. I'm looking forward to get up there and working with him next summer."

After another successful season at Lee's Summit West, his forth as a starter, Ramirez helped the Titans to an 11-1 record. As a sophomore, Ramirez played outside linebacker but the 6-foot-2, 225-pounder moved to more of an inside linebacker role in his final two years as an upperclassman.

"It was a pretty good year," Ramirez shared. "Individually, I made All-State, All-Conference, and All-Kansas City metro. Now that I'm finished with recruiting, my plan is just to continue to work out all the way up until summer when I leave for college. When I get there my goal is to just work my hardest and see where that takes me. The coaches haven't really said if they want me to play inside or outside [linebacker]. It doesn't matter to me. I'm just happy to be a Wildcat."

Ramirez said wasn't sure when he'd take his official visit to Manhattan. He will be playing in the Offense-Defense All-American game in Houston's Reliant Stadium on December 30th, so he;ll likely make the visit soon afterward. In more good news for the Wildcats, Ramirez's teammate, Jamone Boyd, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive lineman, also made his verbal commitment to Kansas State.
