A long recruitment came to an end on Wednesday when Waco High School defensive tackle Andrew Billings, a 4-star Top 100 prospect, signed with the Baylor Bears. Come inside to read more about what he had to say about his recruitment, his new strength and conditioning coach, and what position he expects to play next season.
Andrew Billings
was a Scout.com National Top 100 recruit. The Waco High School defensive tackle held offers from over 50 school including but not limited to
Baylor
,
Oklahoma
,
Texas
,
Texas A&M
,
TCU
, and
Arizona State
. On Wednesday, Billings signed his letter of intent to play football at Baylor University. BearsIllustrated.com caught up with him to get his thoughts on signing day.
"I feel good," Billings said after he finished signing all of the official paperwork.
"I am glad it is over. I am glad I am finally a Baylor Bear."
Billings' recruitment, one that was filled with a lot of speculation up to his announcement one day prior to signing day, was really a 3-team race between Baylor, Texas, and TCU. In the end, the hometown Baylor Bears out-recruited the other two schools, and landed the most highly rated high school defensive tackle prospect the school has ever seen.
"For the last two weeks it was stressful. Going back and forth, and back and forth. It was like I was fighting something. Finally on the last day, I just said I am going to throw it all down and just go where I want to go. That was Baylor," said Billings.
With his parents by his side the whole way, and by his side at signing day festivities, Billings explains that there is a peace in the Billings household about his decision to play football at Baylor.
"They feel good about my situation. They trusted my decision. They are happy if I am happy. And I am."
Looking ahead to his freshman season at Baylor, Billings provided that he wants to play defensive tackle, and he hopes to play in his true freshman season. He understands that high school football is much different than the rigors of college football, and with Baylor's strength and conditioning coach, Kaz Kazadi, Billings hopes to make that transition a smooth one.
"He [Kaz Kazadi] is one of the best. No, he is the best. Even colleges I went too talked about him. I know he is the real deal. I know he is going to push me, but I am ready for it though," said Billings.
As for Baylor head football coach
Art Briles
?
"Coach Briles has really changed Baylor for the best. They are going to keep making progress. I hope to be a part of that."
