Scott Lindsey commits to Northwestern

Scott Lindsey committed to Northwestern on Sunday night, a decision welcomed by an always supportive family unit.

Scott Lindsey wanted to play basketball. His family supported the dream, and that fittingly ended close to home.

The Fenwick (Ill.) shooting guard committed to Northwestern on Sunday night, adding to an impressive recruiting class. It makes the Chris Collins hire look better with each passing day.

Lindsey worked for everything. His dad taught him the game from “infant age,” instilling the strong basketball IQ that defines Lindsey’s approach. Not the flashiest player, and still a work in progress, NU’s most recent commit became a desirable in-state commodity because of it.

His family could only watch as Lindsey rose tremendously during the July evaluation period. Chris Collins saw him play on several occasions, including one 25-point outburst, and considered handing an offer to the local prospect.

When that offer came through on Aug. 27, Lindsey received incredible response from those close to him. He knew his family and friends would be able to see him play—a driving force in his overall decision.

“The Northwestern offer was the biggest reaction I got,” he said. “Everyone reacted to it like: ‘Oh man, that’s such a great offer. We all want you to get there.’”

In the end, it was of course Lindsey’s decision. Recruited as a shooting guard alongside an excellent point man in Bryant McIntosh, Lindsey will flash his outstanding range and smoothness.

This improvement–which led to offers from NU, Iowa and Vanderbilt among others–might be attributed to the work ethic aided by his strong support system.

“He’s at every game,” Lindsey said of his dad.

Some things won’t change as Lindsey continues his meteoric rise. The challenge continues: Still unranked in Scout.com’s latest update, Lindsey needs to round out his game in order to compete for a future starting spot.

The fit seems perfect. Collins has built a four-man class (with at least one more member, and perhaps two) of fighters. Lindsey knows he’s joining a program due for better times, or as he calls it, “a change in culture.”

With his family watching, it’ll be that much sweeter.
