Presser Notes: Any Luck at All?

Presser Notes: Any Luck at All?

More on injuries and recovery in this PurpleWildcats.com Premium update.

— Northwestern will support the Wounded Warrior Project by wearing alternate Under Armour jerseys with stars, stripes and a gray base in their Nov. 16 game against Michigan. That game will kick off at 2:30 CT, and the jerseys will be auctioned off later with all proceeds going to the Project. Player names on the back of the jerseys will be replaced by core military values.

— Treyvon Green was named the offensive player of the game against Nebraska. Tyler Scott got the nod on defense, and Fitz also praised Chi Chi Ariguzo for continuing to flex his playmaking ability.

Anthony Walker, Kyle Quiero and Miles Shuler got mentioned as practice team standouts. Northwestern will be practicing with its junior varsity players this week.

— Fitz's injury report read something like a depth chart. Green, Scott, Tony Jones, Venric Mark, Dean Lowry, Mike Trumpy, Nick VanHoose, Collin Ellis and Will Hampton would all be unable to suit up if Northwestern had a game this week.

— "It's been a hard month. We've battled our fannies off. This toughness is something we take great pride in. We have to work hard this week to get guys healthy," Fitzgerald said. "If we didn't have bad luck, we wouldn't have any luck at all."

— Tony Jones practiced last Thursday and tried to go Saturday in Lincoln, but his quad didn't respond well. Jones will be shut down until middle of next week.

— "If things don't get fixed quickly, there's a strong possibility" of Mark getting a medical redshirt. Fitz hasn't spoken to Mark about his desire to graduate or stay at Northwestern for another season.

— Players were still in a "mourning mode" over Nebraska yesterday. "As we're moving forward, let's keep some things in perspective," Fitz added.

— With the players having a day off, Fitz spent most of the presser stressing the "next man up" mentality that the team has adopted in light of all the injuries. Fitzgerald chose not to rehash the Nebraska loss and didn't speak about the upcoming Michigan game. NU couldn't have asked for a better time for a bye week.
