Pat Fitzgerald announced on Monday that Venric Mark will miss the remainder of this season due to an ankle fracture. The senior running back may seek a medical hardship waiver.
Mark played in only three games this season. He suffered a hamstring injury during training camp, but returned–perhaps prematurely–in the season opener at California.
After appearing near full strength in his return against Ohio State, Mark fell victim to another setback. He hurt the ankle during a 35-6 loss at Wisconsin, effectively ending his season.
Mark will finish the year with just 97 yards on 31 carries, this coming one year after his 1,366-yard campaign. His absence decimated the Northwestern offense, which has struggled in the ongoing five-game losing streak.
Fitzgerald also announced Stephen Buckley underwent season-ending knee surgery. This running back position has faced bad luck, but it’s up to Treyvon Green to help the Wildcats finish this season on a positive note.
