After playing quarterback during his college career, Colter began to prepare for the NFL Draft as a wide receiver.
But in January, Colter missed the Senior Bowl after undergoing ankle surgery. That setback—and obvious position concerns—might have kept him from being drafted this weekend.
Colter played some wide receiver at Northwestern, but was primarily a dual-threat quarterback for Pat Fitzgerald. In an injury shortened 2013 season, he completed 79 percent of his passes with 489 rushing yards.
His best receiving performance came in 2012, when he shocked Indiana with nine catches for 131 yards in a 44-29 win. That season, he led NU to 10 wins, including the Wildcats' first bowl victory in 64 years.
Other reports indicate that Tyler Scott has also signed with the Vikings. Scott, the 6-foot-4, 235-pound defensive end was named the Northwestern Team Most Valuable Player in 2013. He earned second team All-Big Ten honors after leading the Wildcats with six sacks and 10 tackles for loss.
