OK, what is an Iron Cat?
Iron Cat is a position specific compilation of 40 yd. dash, 20
yd. shuttle, 300 yd. shuttle, vertical jump, inclined bench press, hang
clean and squats. Points are awarded for each one based on position
played and weight or time achieved.
Go ahead, stop now and think who among last year's frosh might have been "Iron Cats." There were 5.
Are you done?
The guy who has to be a Freshman Iron Cat is Trevor Rees, after all he started most of the games at Center and would be pushed by rest of the folks up front.
Two more are guys who played a bit last year: LB Adam Kadela and LB Nick Roach.
Then a couple of "sleepers" TE Frayne Abernathy, and DL Mark Koehn.
There were two more players among the freshmen who were nursing injuries that prevented them from doing all the lifts
Lately we've been reading about NU players who almost loafed through
their first years with the Wildcats.
Five out of 13 frosh on the Iron Cat list points out that almost half
of that incoming class last year stepped up and invested the time and
energy to earn the Iron Cat honor
That bodes well for the future of the program.
