Another Great Night for Sutton

Last Friday, Tyrell Sutton just missed setting an Ohio High School single game rushing and scoring record. This week, the Northwestern University's commit broke the Ohio High School state career rushing record while scoring a first quarter touchdown. Here's a recap of the reports from Akron...

The game was barely through the first quarter,

when Akron Archbishop Hoban [and NU Commit] tailback Tyrell Sutton took a handoff and sprinted down the right sidelines for 57 yards, a touchdown, and a place in the Ohio High School State record book.

The TD run added 114 yards to Sutton's career yardage, and tallied his 34th consecutive 100 yard rushing game. It also put him over 8,216 yards - the state record set in 2001 by Williamsburg HS's Jason Bainum.

Sutton was presented with the game ball after the run, but later gave the credit to his O-Line - tight end Brett Grund, tackles Ben Sargent and Shawn Glaser, guards Gino Mascio and Dave Maple and center Bill Schindel,

"This is the best line I've ever had here at Hoban," Sutton said. [in the Akron Beacon Journal] "My name goes down (in the record books) but we all know why."

And the 5-9 194 lb tailback wasn't done for the evening - he later scored on an 82 yard run on a play where he had to break outside and run down the sidelines. He finished the night with 314 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Sutton has verbally committed to Northwestern University. While considered small for a Div I running back, he is expected to eventually carry the ball for the Wildcats under former running back - NU Head Coach Randy Walker - who has coached 23 running backs to 1,000+ yard seasons in his career.
