Virginia and Duke would play for the National Championship up in Boston -- showcasing their league's awsome talents in that hotbed of women's Lacrosse players. Well, I guess it was the hope of some of the teams in the ACC. The problem was that nobody bothered to explain it to Princeton. You see, Princeton has a Sophomore, Katie Lewis-Lamonica, who just managed to score the winning goal, then freeze the ball to seal the win. She obviously didn't read the pregame ACC hype. The loss by the Cavaliers Sunday sure throws the NCAA Tournament into a shambles. NU is 2-1 against the teams remaining in the tournament, and once again a couple of long time powerhouse LAX teams will dodge playing the Wildcats because they were put in the bracket with Virginia. The sad thing is that now NU and Duke will probably meet in the Semifinal game May 25th, [although North Carolina and James Madison might have something to say about that matchup] instead of in the final. What's that saying about "Paybacks?"
Any more complaints about NU's Softball Field? I didn't think so - outside of the lack of "dry," I thought the field looked great, the efforts of the grounds crew paid off splendidly. For a change, we didn't have any 50+ inning games, so the lack of lights was a non-factor. The only bad news was that the Cats lost the Big 10 final to Michigan. The Good News is our Cats were seeded #4 and will host a Regional [and maybe a Super Regional] as the NCAA Div I Softball Championship begins May 19th.
