We can not underestimate the importance of the commitment from Robeson's Charles Brown. First, making inroads in the public league pool of talent is important for the program. Bright inner city kids coming to Northwestern opens door for the kids and the all of N.U.'s athletic programs. Second, along with talented defensive linemen, the hardest position to recruit has been the burner reciever. Should Brown get to school [he would have been accepted to get an offer], stay in school, practice and improve, his speed could be the offensive difference maker the Cat's have needed since Teddy Johnson. The ability to stretch the defense, adds another big play weapon to the offensive arsenal means no more 8 or 9 defensive players in the box. Sutton may run for miles. [but] This is the most exciting recruit to date in my opinion. Regardless of the outcome of this season the future under Fitz looks bright with the talented recruits he's likely to have this year.
With the kind of talent we are bringing in, AT THE VERY LEAST, we are assured that the program will not revert back to the dark ages with the coming of a new HC. Charles Brown also is a terrific student with a very high GPA (around 4.1 or so) and is No. 1 in his HS class, I believe. I would have been more comfortable had he been rated higher in the Illinois Top players list. However, around 20 or so is fine considering only 2 WRs make the Top 20. Prospects around the 20-25 mark are Justin Hickman, Dinardo etc., kids who are just about there.
