So far, Mike Kafka has rushed 33 times for 164 yds, averaging 5.0 per carry with no fumbles. Passing he's 355 yards for 67 attempts, 5.2 yards per attempt with 2 interceptions. Based on that, he's almost a better bet carrying the ball, than throwing, even thoughwhen he does, the team averages 8.2 yards per catch - Kafka is completing about 63% of his passes. But when you consider that Tyrell Sutton averages 5.6 yards per carry, and Terell Jordan 4.7, you can see why our offensive coordinator tends to let the guys run. Sutton's per game average is way down [115ypg last year, 84.3 this year], but his yards per carry average [5.9 vs 5.6] is pretty close. Sutton got the ball just under 20 times a game last year, he's average 15 carries per game in 2006 For the record, Andrew Brewer averages 4.2 yards per pass attempt. Also from the Stat page, Sherrick McManis averages 23.5 yards per kickoff return, vs 13.5 for Brandon Roberson, who filled in while McManis was recovering from appendicitis. Its easy to see why they've burrned McManis' redshirt.
Third string QB C.J. Bacher` is listed as Doubtful but there are reports he's got his "walking boot" off, Sherrick McManis left practice early Monday. Listed as Out for Nevada are: DE Warren Anderson, DE Corbin Bryant, S Todd Dockery, WR Kevin Frymire, S Bryan Heinz, S Akeem Hunter, LB Chris Jeske, LB Rajaie Johnson and CB Justan Vaughn. Kim Thompson is also not practicing.
On Offense, Ross Lane has regained the starting Z Wide Receiver position, Adam Crum is now listed as the backup center replacing Joel Belding. Belding also has a big "OR" next to his name, with RS Frosh Desmond Taylor a possible.replacement. Belding was in and out off the game with Eastern Michigan, not sure if he's banged up, or the coaches want to try something different on the O-Line. On Defense, Adam Hahn apparently is now the starter at Tackle when the Cats run their 3-4. John Gill is listed as the other DT, with Keegan Kennedy listed as an "or" choice also. David Ngene has taken over the starting left Defensive End slot. Kevin Mims and Mark Koehn are firmly in the DE rotation. Among the safeties, true frosh Brad Phillips has moved to #2 at Free Safety on the depth chart for Nevada.
