Who's Selling the NU Football Story?

There's one constant thread running through the commitment list so far - Linebacker Coach Pat Fitzgerald. Look at the 3 verbals so far -

1. LB Kyle Wagner becomes commit #1 - He was being recruited by Assistant Coach Pat Fitzgerald.
2. LB Adam Kadela picks Northwestern - he attends the team meetings with the linebackers, a meeting run by Coach Fitzgerald.
3. DE Warren Anderson commits along with Kadela - His coach reports that Coach Fitz was the guy recruiting him. According to his coach, Fitz did a "great job."

It seems that Linebacker Coach Pat Fitzgerald has turned into a one man recruiting team. He's also been spotted down in Texas looking at O-Linemen, and seems to have his name turn up whenever NU recruiting is discussed right now.

Last year he was the point man on signing starting DE Freshman Loren Howard.

NU has another assistant who recruits like Fitz - Howard Feggins. The jury is still out on the recent recruiting classes, but NU went into last January with 6 or 7 scholarships open. After all of Feggins' commits came in, NU had a decent looking class.

The Feggins-Fitzgerald combo seems awsome out on the recruiting trails. Makes you wonder who else they've got tucked away on Recruiting Coordinator Jeff Genyk's prospect board.

In any case, they don't seem to be worried about changes in Evanston. Of course a good recruiter will always find another job. A great recruiter usually doesn't need to leave the one he's already in.
