San Leandro teammates Reggie McPherson and Sam Cheatham will both play their college football in the Big Ten conference for Northwestern.

“I committed on Sunday morning,” said wide receiver Sam Cheatham.

“I had a great visit. Noah Herron was my host. I chose Northwestern because of the family atmosphere. The players are all united.

“The campus is beautiful and the academics speak for themselves. Chicago is very close and there is just a lot of places to hang out and experience.

“I’m ready to go. It’s also nice to have a friend and teammate (Reggie McPherson) around for the next four of five years also.”

Cheatham, a 5-foot-11, 175-pounder, from San Leadro, California is a three-year starter on both sides of the ball. He had 1,121 yards receiving and scored 13 touchdowns in 2002.

Cheatham chose Northwestern over Colorado, Oregon State and Kansas State.
