Are the NU Wildcats becoming a Basketball Power?

You had to see it to believe it...

There it is on the NU Gametracker - the Northwestern Wildcat Women's Basketball team trumped the Men Thursday night by upsetting the #22 Penn State Nittany Lions 59-48.

Ifeoma Okonkwo, the frosh forward, hit for 19 points and 6 rebounds. Sarah Kwasinski, senior Center added 16 with 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a block. Samantha McComb was the third Wildcat in double figures with 10.

Overall the Cats out rebounded Penn State 37 to 27, and out shot the Lions 45% to 38%. The Cats also combined for 16 assists and 4 steals.

Penn State was led in scoring by Tanisha Wright with 17 points.

NU was the original Big 10 Women's basketball power - it looks like first year coach Beth Combs finally has the Cats playing her way - to win! [Story corrected Friday Morning to reflect PSU's correct national rank.]
