Michigan and Notre Dame lead the way with six of the top 40 prospects in the region committing to Lloyd Carr and the Wolverines and six pledging their services to Charlie Weis and the Fighting Irish. Jim Tressel and his Ohio State Buckeyes have landed five of the regions top 40 players.
For the second year in a row an offensive tackle has managed to land the distinction of being the top ranked player in the Midwest Region. Last year, Wisconsin’s Josh Oglesby held the top spot. This year, Dublin Coffman (Ohio) standout Mike Adams at 6-foot-8 and 300-pounds, is the top rated prospect in the region. Adams is joined by teammate Jacob Stoneburner as Dublin-Coffman has two players in the top ten.
Adams, will have to fend off the talents of cornerback Boubacar Cissoko from Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech, Steve Filer from Chicago (Ill.) Mt. Carmel and the talented Michael Floyd of Minneapolis (Minn.) Cretin Derham Hall to maintain that top spot.
With the formation of the Midlands region the state of Iowa has been shifted to the Midlands. The Midwest now consists of Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana and Kentucky.
