Curtis High School made it all the way to their league championship game last season against Fort Hamilton and with the talent they are bringing back, have to be one of the favorites to repeat with an appearance in that game. Christopher Thomas is one of the driving forces on their defense and he will be hunting for offers this season.

Christopher Thomas plays safety at the high school level, however the 6-foot, 194-pound athlete is being recruited as an outside linebacker by every school that is currently recruiting him. At this point the Staten Island, N.Y., native already has picked up his first offer from Division I-AA program Hofstra and has plenty of interested parties chasing after him. We spoke to Thomas tonight about which programs have been recruiting him and there seems to be a heavy mix of I-AA programs in the picture.

“Right now I am hearing the most from Northwestern, Connecticut, Buffalo, Temple, Hofstra, Massachusetts, Lehigh, Fordham, Marist and New Hampshire,” Thomas said. “A lot of the Division I-AA coaches have been coming by asking me if I would be willing to play at their level and I have told them all that I’d be excited to play football at any level, so they have been recruiting me pretty tough. Hofstra offered me a scholarship after I camped there and I really liked a lot about both the school and the program when I was there and had the chance to see things for myself.”

As for the four Division I-A programs that have been spending the most time recruiting Thomas, he broke down what type of communication he has had and how serious the interest has been up until this point.

Northwestern - “I spoke to a coach from there who I am pretty sure was the linebacker coach and he told me that he really liked my nose for the ball and how I moved on the field. He stressed that they really wanted me to camp, but I couldn’t get the money together to get to it, so that is where we stand. At this point I think they will be focusing on my senior year to see how I do.”

Connecticut - “I met Head Coach (Randy) Edsall when he came down to talk to Dominick LeGrande at the school and while we didn’t really get too serious, he did say that he would be watching me during my senior year to see how I do. He came off as a pretty cool coach and was pretty down to Earth.”

Buffalo - “Head Coach Turner Gill came down to the school and met with Dominick and I and he was a really cool and straightforward person. He invited us both up for camp this summer, so we will see what happens there.”

Temple - “I have been emailing back and forth with their coaching staff for a while now and they have told me that extra attention will be paid to how I do during my senior season, so all I really have to do is go out and do my thing which is good to hear. I have not been down to Temple before, but I would be interested in checking them out too.”

As a junior, Thomas collected 54 tackles and led his league in sacks with 16 total on his way to first-team All-City and All-Borough honors. He was named to all star teams by both the Staten Island Advance and the Daily News and was also a member of the Time Warner Cable Elite 11 squad.

In the classroom, Thomas carries a 3.2 core GPA and scored an 1120 on his SAT test.
