Prior to earning the Miami post, Feggins spent two seasons as assistant coach in charge of defensive backs and kick returners at Wingate University (N.C.). He also oversaw the Bulldog's speed development program. While at Wingate, Feggins coached third-team All-America defensive back Dorian Lane, the school's first-ever defensive All-American.

Following his graduation, Feggins played for the New England Patriots in 1988 and 1989 and during the preseason for the New York Giants in 1990. He played two seasons for the London Monarchs of the World Football League before closing out his career with the Hamilton TigerCats of the Canadian Football League.
