| Jay Peterson, 40, has spent 12 seasons coaching under Randy Walker and is in his fourth season at NU with a new duty. After coaching linebackers the past 11 years, Peterson will direct the Wildcats' defensive line.
During his three-year tenure as the Wildcats' linebackers coach, NU's linebacker corps was one of the nation's best, boasting two players who were on the 2001 Bronko Nagurski watch list (Kevin Bentley and Billy Silva). In 2001, Bentley and Silva ranked a respective ninth and 17th, nationally, in total tackles. The third member of that linebacking corps, Napoleon Harris, moved to defensive end in 2001. All three players earned All-Big Ten honors in 2000.
